Packing & Moving Tips Moving house can be one of the most stressful things you ever do. Do not panic! You are in good hands! We've come up with some useful tips and pointers. • Before you start calling randomly for quotes, get a pen & paper, make notes, write down which company you speak to and a contact name. You'll be surprised to know how many times the same person has phoned us three and more times to get a quote! • Ensure you supply the correct postcodes and address details (at both ends) If you plan any additional "quick" stops, tell us before, not on the day! • Who's doing the loading/unloading? (If you require an exclusive removal service -- that costs more!) Don't say it might be 2/3/4 helpers and when we turn up there's one (you!) Sadly mostly people seem to not have any friends when they move but do try and invite some friends over, this will save you time and money! Please note all quotes are for 1 man and Van, unless otherwise stated. • Be as accurate as you possibly can. Try and make an inventory list before calling for quotes. What floors? This is important. It takes a lot longer to move someone from the 4th floor than the ground floor. What is parking like at both ends? Don't expect us to walk with heavy items around the corner! It is the customer's responsibility to ensure (and pay where needed) for safe and suitable parking. Inform us if there's any road works or diversions on the way or in your street. • Large pieces of furniture i.e sofas, wall units, side boards etc, make sure they fit through the doors at both ends. You might have built an extension to your house and can't get it out. The following things have been submitted by our customers and highlight a few pointers that some might find usefull. Clear out unwanted and unused items. Clear the loft. Almost forgot about the boxes, memorabilia, pram and kids toys. Try getting the freezer content lower. Less things to pack and far less chance of food stuffs going off. Cheap bin liners should have their own warning label "do no use for packing cutlery!" Inform your Doctor, Dentist, Optician, Vet, Employer, Bank, Credit Cards and insurance companies of your move. Telephone, Broadband and TV reconnection could take a few weeks. Give enough lead time. Re-route your snail-mail. Notify TV Licence, Passport, Car Licence and Registration Offices including your V5 Notify all your creditors (or not Plan where furniture will go in the new place Cancel milk and newspaper deliveries Find and label all keys for the new tenant Have a pet/baby-sitter for your pets and very young children, if needed. We love animals and kids and they are welcome to "help" us. Unfortunately some kids or animals might find the whole moving experience a bit too stressful. Send change of address cards to friends and relatives (only the special ones) Have a seperate box for your toiletries and personal stuff, which you can finish just before the move. Have your valuables and hand documents separate and ready on the moving day. Keys. Make sure to hand in the keys to new tenant or old landlord. Keys. Have keys ready for new place or arrange to collect en-route Mark/label all furniture which is staying Where possible give your garden/garage tools a quick dusting. If not, all the dirt/dust/oil will go in the back of the van with your valuables. Have toys, nappies & snacks ready for the journey. Last thing to be packed should be the kettle! On the day: • Have a parking space cleared for us • Be ready, don't still be packing • Make sure you have the new keys/rights to move in • Make sure all people involved (new and old address) are available • Where needed remove doors and clear hallways • White appliances unplugged and unplumbed and ready to go • All flat packed furniture is dismantled where needed • It is expected from the customer to help with the loading and unloading unless otherwise advised before hand • Quotes are not for our unlimited time and labour • If the volume of goods are much more than explained/quoted for, we will charge more. We hear daily that customers say they didn't realise they had so much stuff. We understand this, that's why we do allow for a certain amount extra but all within reason. • Please have payment ready after completion of job. • For long distance jobs 50% deposit is required upon booking and balance on completion. • www.deadlinedeliveringsolutions.co.uk
